THE FOUR STEPS TO BASKETBALL SUCCESS
STEP 1: BASIC FUNDAMENTALS
Basics! Basics! Basics! We start by teaching the basic mechanics of the game. We must establish a FOUNDATION for success....YOUR STANCE, TRIPLE THREAT POSITION, FORM SHOOTING, FORM DRIBBLING, DEFENSIVE STANCE AND PIVOTING, BASKETBALL POSTURE, etc.
STEP 2: TECHNICAL SKILLS
Next move onto the common basketball tasks players need to master…. SHOOTING, LAYUPS, PASSING, BALLHANDLING, PASSING, REBOUNDING AND DEFENSE, etc.
STEP 3: TACTICAL SKILLS (BASKETBALL IQ)
Next, we move on to the decisions and actions players make in-game situations, to help performance and give their team an advantage over an opponent. For example, knowing how and when to take a shot, when to pass, when to screen, how to rebound, knowing how to go backdoor, execute pick and roll or how to execute an offense, play defense, or execute an out of bounds play, etc.
STEP 4: GAME COMPETITION
Playing 5-on-5, 4-on-4, 3-on-3, 2-on-2 and 1-on-1. All of these competitive games help develop one’s ability to put it all together in performing on a basketball court. It takes a true commitment to develop your playing skills to a high level. YOU HAVE TO FAIL YOUR WAY TO SUCCESS. There is no substitute for playing against people your equal or better than you. YOU HAVE TO STICK TO THE FIGHT TO GAIN MOMENTUM TOWARDS THE GOAL OF IMPROVING INCH BY INCH.

Though all these 4 Steps are important, Steps 3 and 4 or crucial to playing basketball in college.
